Tom Rice has been a resident of our district since he was 4 years old. Tom attended the University of South Carolina where he earned a masters degree in accounting and a law degree. After college, he earned his CPA license while working at Deloitte & Touche, an international accounting firm in Charlotte. In 1985, he returned to Myrtle Beach where he practiced Business and Tax Law for over 20 years. Tom holds an AV Preeminent legal rating by Martindale Hubble (the highest rating you can receive), and was certified by the Supreme Court of South Carolina as a specialist in Tax Law, Estate Planning, and Probate. Over the years, Tom has been involved with many charitable and civic organizations, including the Myrtle Beach Haven Homeless Shelter, the Boy Scouts, the Grand Strand Sertoma Club, the Ocean View Foundation, his Church Vestry, the YMCA, and York Place.
Tom served on many advisory boards including the Horry County Probate Court Advisory Committee, the Myrtle Beach Board of Zoning Variances, the Blue Ribbon Committee to Study Emergency Services for the City of Myrtle Beach, and the SC Department of Natural Resources Conservation Education & Communication Advisory Board. In 2010, Tom was elected Chairman of Horry County Council where he focused on economic development and government efficiency. In 2012, Tom was elected the first Congressman for South Carolinas new 7th district, including the Pee Dee and the Grand Strand. In Congress, his focus has been on Jobs, Jobs, Jobs, the Economy, and American Competitiveness. He is on the tax writing Ways and Means Committee and is the first member from South Carolina to hold a leadership position on the powerful committee in 36 years.
When not in Washington, DC, Tom lives in Myrtle Beach with his wife Wrenzie who he has been married to since 1982. Together they have 3 grown sons. In his free time, he enjoys fishing and golfing.
